UCI Nondiscrimination Policy:

Parenting or pregnant faculty are protected under UCI's Nondiscrimination and Affirmative Action Policy Regarding Academic and Staff Employment. The policy, which can be accessed here, states:


III. POLICY TEXT

It is the policy of the University not to engage in discrimination against or harassment of any person employed or seeking employment with the University of California on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender, gender expression, gender identity, pregnancy, physical or mental disability, medical condition (cancer -related or genetic characteristics), genetic information (including family medical history), ancestry, marital status, age, sexual orientation, citizenship, or service in the uniformed services.

This policy applies to all employment practices, including recruitment, selection, promotion, transfer, merit increase, salary, training and development, demotion, and separation. This policy is intended to be consistent with the provisions of applicable state and federal laws and University policies.



APM 711: Reasonable Accommodations for Academic Appointees with Disabilities:

UCI provides reasonable accommodation to qualified academic appointees who are disabled or become disabled and need assistance to perform the essential functions of their positions. View the interactive process and procedures of the policy here.

APM 715: Family and Medical Leave

In accordance with applicable State and Federal law, family and medical leave provides eligible employees with entitlements to leave for up to a total of 12 workweeks during a calendar year, continua nce of health plan coverage as if on pay status, and reinstatement rights. Eligible academic appointees are entitled to take unpaid leave or to substitute accrued vacation or accrued sick leave (as set forth in APM - 715-20). View the full UCI policy here.

APM 759: Other Leaves Without Pay:

In addition to the special types of leaves, leaves of absence without pay for other good cause may be granted to academic appointees. Such leaves shall not exceed one year in length and shall not extend beyond June 30 of the academic year in which the leave is granted. View the full UCI policy here.

APM 080: Medical Separation

Medical separation will be considered only in cases where an academic appointee has a disability (or a medical condition that has become disabling) that cannot be reasonably accommodated without causing undue hardship. View the full UCI policy here.
